Vespasian Dorms, Markswell's High Academy

It was the sort of thing that would undoubtedly be a common sight to the girls of the dorm in a few months, but for the moment, it was something extraordinary. And, of course, there was no guarantee that any of the other girls would get used to it- but that may well be for the better. A person who is accustomed to everything they experience becomes less observant, perhaps too sure of what they are doing, and is left in greater shock when something breaks the routine. Humanity by its nature is, of course, adaptable, but sometimes too adaptable.
To Erin(s? How -does- one express that? The English language simply isn't meant for multilocational ability.), it was extraordinary for a different reason than it would be to the other girls- for she was settling in and making herself comfortable.
One girl, of course, is in the dormitory bathroom, taking a shower. The door, circumstances permitting, is locked and closed for the sake of privacy, but a few wisps of steam escape here and there under the door- obviously, the girl likes her shower water quite warm or even hot. Two girls are in two of the rooms designated, one humming the harmony and the other the melody of the same tune, creating an interesting effect as the girls move in different rhythms back and forth, sometimes facing walls that mute the noise or other times out towards the doors of the room, making their line of the music louder or softer at curious intervals. Each of these two girls is wearing a simple outfit- one a peasant-dress style top and skirt, the blouse white and the skirt and outer layer atop the blouse both in a deep forest green. The other, in the room further from the door, wears a similar outfit, but substitutes rich, deep red for the green, and black for the white. Both of them have their hair in a long French braid to just below their hips, tied off with a plush silk bow in a color to match each girl's blouse.
The fourth of the brunettes is sitting comfortably on a curious little chair, her ruffled black skirt held close to her legs by a set of paired cushions. The chair is a kneeling chair, designed so that she is in a loose kneel as she reads, rather than seated with all her weight on her rump as with a normal chair. Where the two unpacking girls are wearing peasant blouses, her ruffled skirt is actually part of a full dress, flowing and fanciful with white ribbons and lace festooned about- it's a very gothic sort of a garment, and while her loose, free mass of brown hair doesn't quite fit the image, nor the freckles dotting here and there, the paleness of her skin matches well with it down to where the high collar reaches halfway up her neck.
Last of all, a fifth brunette sits on the floor, carefully avoiding catching herself in hair pulled up into a high ponytail. Feet far apart, she is performing a series of stretches, in time with the two humming and unpacking girls' music. However, this one has earphones on, the cord hanging from the two curving down and then back up to an iPod clipped to the neck of her outer garment, a midriff-cropped tee-shirt. Of course, the leotard beneath the burnt-orange shirt is a calm, soft brown and when put together with the opaque forest-green tights it provides much more coverage than one might think. The leggings pooled about either shin and calf, matching the cropped tee, do their own part to complete the exercise outfit, which appears only to be missing footgear of any sort.
As the exercising girl shifts slowly into a sidewise split, eyes unfocused in concentration, the reading brunette turns a page. Pausing and marking her spot briefly with an index finger, she glances at the entry to the four-dorm hallway. The Gothically-clad girl seems to pout slightly as her dormmate still has not just yet shown up, and turns her attention back to the paperback in her hands, a colorful book whose cover indicates that it is called Manta's Gift.
Perhaps before the end of the chapter...?
