People all over the world are suddenly equipped with powers which science itself struggles to explain. There are two-year olds flying through the air, and teenagers that suddenly burst into flames in the middle of math class.
Mutants.
And mutant fearing officials and civilians turned to the president to 'stop the madness'. He did, and with the CIA and other secret government organizations working hard to suppress this sudden phenomenon-- super-villains and heroes alike began emerging on the streets. Companies like MARVEL and DC Universe were seemingly shut down overnight at the sudden swarm of government and civilian protestants. They 'poisoned the minds of the new generation', or it was so said when owning a comic book was banned in the entire United States.
That didn't stop Darryl Markswell. One of the smartest people, and most prominent mutant on this planet, he has, in a sense-- become the real-life Charles Xavier. He knew how important it would be to harness the younger generation-- to show them how important it would be for them to be able to harness their powers for good, and use them responsible. Most importantly, to embrace their responsibility of protecting the world from themselves, and the darker side of mutiny.
And Darryl Markswell didn't stop the government from taking matters into their own hands. They created the 'extinguishers', a less then noble and patriotic classified organization designed to capture and eliminate mutants. Their goal is to destroy every single mutant gene in existence, one by one if necessary. And if that means brainwashing other mutants into destroying their own kind, so be it. They'll just be further down on the list to be terminated. Permanently.
So with all this chaos around you, when you are just starting suspect that you're a mutant yourself-- it's time to choose a side.
Will you join the Markswell in his fight for human/mutant equality? Will you enter his side as a student, at his school for the change? Or are you already on his team-- as a full grown mutant, with powers equipped for good?
Or will you join the Extinguishers? Maybe as the head-honcho, the one who makes the plan, and orders the death sentence or torture of a million mutants? Or maybe you joined them for your own purposes, to climb your ways to the top and then tear the whole world down. It could be possible that you're there by force, as a mutant being prodded and experimented on for answers, possibly brainwashed into killing those you love?
Or maybe you're on your own side. Good when you feel like it, bad when you don't. A loner with your own agenda, or a bewildered but important civilian in this chess-game of war.
But in the long run, all that matters is that you live in this world, and there's nothing you can do to change that. There's a million ways to start your life on this planet, and a million more on how to end it. Most importantly, it's all up to you-- you make your own choices in this world with mutants galore.
