Welcome to Contest Three, created by yours truly! This contest is quite different from Contest One and Two—but the prizes are similar (but different!) So, here is your information!

General Gist: This contest also involves a bit of writing—but also a lot of imagination and outside the box-thinking.

Topic: Take one of your characters from Mutants Galore—and create a video game on them!

Details: Okay—I’m not literally saying, create a full-fledged video game with pixels that plugs into a Wii—I’m saying create a Stage One video game plan on your character! Create an interesting story plot (in great detail), information on how the game is controlled, what game consol is used—in fact? Why don’t you use this code below? How many entries can you submit?: One per character you posses. If you are submitting via an account that does not possess a character at the moment/yet (such as a new member, or an admin account)—you may either…
a.) Make up a character that holds a tie to Mutants Galore
b.) Use a character you have played as an OCC on Mutants Galore. (Such as your character’s mother, or a bounty-hunter a character once encountered)

How is the winner decided? I’ll decide first, second, and third place so we won’t have to wait on people to vote in a poll. When the site becomes more popular with greater members, we will return to poll-voting.

-1st Place: My personal favorite—the ability to destroy one building of your choice. Whether it be the MCA tower, Markswell’s School, The Freedom Fighter Cave, or the President’s house—it’s all up to you! (1 time only. If you don’t want this, you may substitute it for the ability for two characters of your choice to be able to posses two powers.) If you wish for more information on this prize, PM Daze (username: admin).
-2nd Place: The character you used to win will be able to gain two more powers ontop of the one they already have. (If your character does not posses a power, and you do not want one—you can substitute it for the prize above)
-3rd Place: The character you used to win the contest will be able to gain one additional power ontop of the one they already have. (If your character does not posses a power, and you do not want one—you can substitute it for a smaller version of the 1st place prize.)

As you know, my hand was hurt, and since I'm mostly OK now, I was going to use Labor Day to finish up. Well, my aunt and uncle from out of town turned up, so we spent all day (and will spend all of tonight) with them. I'm only about halfway done, so an extra day would be lovely.

General Story Plot

• Exposition: James and Sabrina are introduced. Combat system is explained in a short sequence that also sets up the “factions” in their kingdom: Thieves (homeless/poor, steal for a living; James, Sabrina, and friends), Soldiers (middle- to upper-class, work for the honor; Andrew, Atticus, Noah, and company), and the Outsiders (rebels who hope to overthrow the king; Hex and subordinates). Each faction stands on its own, pitted against the other two.
  
• Rising Action: Sabrina is kidnapped by a group of Outsiders. James turns to Andrew, his childhood friend, for help. Though Andrew is a Soldier and should arrest a Thief on sight, he instead chooses to help his old friend. Sabrina is rescued, but Noah, a fellow soldier, noticed Andrew running around with a Thief, and followed them when they went to save her. He attempts to intervene and stop the rescue, and their escape from the Outsiders' base attracts attention from both the Outsiders and the other Soldiers. A fight ensues, and during the confrontation, Andrew chooses to stand with the Thieves.
  Andrew's father, Atticus, is also the captain of the city's guard, aka the Soldiers. He has no time to reprimand his son, however, for the kidnapping and ensuing fighting were part of the Outsiders' plan. Hex, their leader, knew that James would go after Sabrina, and also knew that he and Andrew were childhood friends. It was a risk, but the fighting provides enough of a distraction to allow the Outsiders to break into the royal palace and kidnap the youngest princess.
  Atticus, at Andrew's urging, agrees to join the trio in pursuit of the princess. The Outsiders, however, knew to leave the city, and the four heroes must search the kingdom for them. With bases in multiple cities throughout the massive land, there is no indication of where to begin. However, several smaller quests give them leads to follow, giving the player an idea of which city to target first.
  
• Climax: After battling their way past mythical creatures, ambushes, roaming thieves, and countless Outsider bases, James, Sabrina, Andrew, and Atticus finally find the princess. The guards at her cell take only a simple fight to defeat, and James is moments from picking the lock when Noah appears. He's been working for the Outsiders for years, and joined the Soldiers only as a spy. With his superior strength and reflexes, enhanced by his powers, and with back-up from other Outsiders, he defeats the four. (This is a playable battle, but is designed to be unwinnable. The player can carry on for a while if they're skilled, but will eventually fall.) They're taken to a cell of their own, but Andrew is separated from the others for torture.
  The remaining three break out, rescue the princess, retrieve Andrew, and head for the door. However, Hex stands in their way. The final boss fight is intense, but when Hex is knocked down, not killed, they make their escape. It's easier to go now, Atticus reasons, than to stay and possibly lose.
  
• Falling Action: The group returns to the city. The princess is returned, Andrew and Atticus return to the guard, and James and Sabrina slip back into their lives of crime. However, the Soldiers occasionally call the two Thieves for help spying on the Outsiders, among other similarly-legal jobs.
  
• Resolution: Hex is still out there, Noah is still on his side, and the Outsiders are still waiting. CUE SEQUEL!
  
  Any detail you want to add on the story:
  -The “main” objective is to rescue the princess, but there are countless side quests that can be done along the way. Collecting objects, mini-games, exploring the land, etc. (These sound vague, but it would take pages and pages to describe everything I want to do.)
  -Much like in Tales of Symphonia, the player can choose which character to control in battle. (Detailed in the section on fighting below.) The character that they've chosen to control is also the character that will appear on the world map.
  -There will be some obstacles in both the over-world and in towns that must be cleared using a character's powers. If the character is not at a high enough level to learn said power, then the player must remember to return later. (Sort of like in the Pokemon games, how you can't cross water until you can use Surf, etc.) These obstacles can hide everything from items to, eventually, a secret mini-boss battle.
  
  How are Fight Scenes Done?
  -There are no random encounters. Instead, enemies will appear in the over-world, and the player can avoid encounters if they choose. (Obviously boss battles and scripted event battles ((aka those required for the plot)) can't be avoided.)
  -Once a battle begins, the player is not transported to some empty “battle area”. Instead, the battle occurs wherever the character was when they encountered the enemy. (The only reason the over-world and the battles are separated is to keep the controls stream-lined when not in battle, so the player won't have to worry about throwing a punch when they're just trying to open a door.) This means the character can climb over walls, utilize the environment, and so on. There is a limit to the size of the battle area, but it's large nonetheless.
  -The player directly controls their chosen character in battle. Each character has different abilities and controls differently, depending on their powers and their play style. Each player will prefer a different character, depending on how they prefer to fight.
  -James is a quick character, both because of his powers and because of his skill at theft. Though he's weak, both physically and when it comes to his powers, his dodging skills are insane, and he can fly out of the reach of enemies to take time to heal himself. He can also (once he's at a strong enough level) carry one other character into the sky with him, giving them a break from the battle and a safe place to either heal or attack from a distance. Though he can take out an enemy on his own, it takes a skilled player to do so.
  -Sabrina is, when it comes to controls, an average character. She's not incredibly fast or mind-numbingly slow. Though she's physically weak, her control over earth gives her a strength advantage when using her mutation attacks. Her weaker attacks can come quickly, like a rapid barrage of smaller stones, but her earth-shaking (literally) attacks take quite some time to charge. She can also be used to defend other characters by making rock walls around them.
  -Andrew is, like Sabrina, an average character when it comes to speed. However, he's physically strong from his training as a soldier, while his mutation attacks are much weaker. His empathy is useless in battle, and the mind reading can only be used to predict an enemy's next move. It's generally wiser to use him as a brawler.
  -Atticus is the slowest character, but he's also the strongest, if used correctly. His telekinesis allows him to pick up objects from the background, even fallen enemies or fragments of destroyed buildings, and use them against enemies. These objects, if suitably sized, can also be used as shields from enemy attacks. In addition, he's physically strong, but it's a trade-off: His telekinesis takes time to use, but can be used from a distance. His physical attacks are slightly faster and stronger, but he needs to be up close and personal.
  -Each character has their own “rage attack” that can be executed when their designated partner falls in battle. James and Sabrina are a pair, as are Andrew and Atticus. If Andrew falls, Atticus can use his rage attack, and vice versa. Similarly, if Sabrina falls, James can use his rage attack, and vice versa.
  
  How does the Character Move around in the Game?
  -Move with the control stick (joystick)
  -Control the camera with the secondary control stick
  -Main face button (depending on the console) is used to interact with the over-world and talk to NPCs
  -All face buttons can be assigned different attacks for use in battle
  -Left shoulder button is used for defense
  -Right shoulder button, when held in conjunction with a button press, changes the attack from a physical attack to a “mutation” attack with their powers
  
  What Genre of Consumers are you appealing to? Mainly teenagers and young adults, but anyone with an interest in fantasy. Also anyone who likes to play multiplayer, since any battle in the game can be fought with at least two players, often up to four, where each person controls a different character.

  Setting? How to Boundaries work? Are there boundaries?
  -The game is entirely open-world, and the player will eventually gain a horse, and later a large bird, to transport them more quickly. The only limits to the world are (before the bird) the edges of the continent/impassable mountains, and (after the bird is gained) the Final Island. (This island is inhabited, but is so named because nothing has ever been found beyond it. Anyone who ventures past never returns.)
  
  What happens if a character looses? Can a character loose? Can they die? Must they restart the game, or go back to a check-point?
  -Characters cannot die, if only because the plot demands they live. If a character falls in battle, they're simply “knocked out”. (At this point, their partner can use their rage attack, as explained above. This attack will instantly deplete the health of the enemy who took out their partner. However, bosses cannot be instantly KO'd like this, and it will instead count as a critical hit.) A knocked out character cannot fight again until the group rests at an inn.
  -If all characters are knocked out, the group does not die. If they lose to a random enemy between towns, they will wake up at the last inn they visited, rescued by travelers on the road. If they lose in a town, they wake up at the inn in said town, rescued by the city guards. If, however, they're ever defeated by Outsiders, the characters wake up in the closest Outsider base that they've previously visited (so no using this as instant transportation!). They then must escape in a stealth segment.
  -If a boss battle is lost, the characters will wake up either in the Outsider base as prisoners, or in the last inn, depending on the boss. (The only exception is with Noah and Hex, the final two bosses. These must be defeated on the first try, or else the player restarts from the last save point.)
  
  How much freedom does the gamer have?
  -The main quest and the plot are set, but the player can choose to play however they want. Any properly-skilled player can defeat even the final boss with low-level characters (say around Level 25), but this requires plenty of practice.
  
  Do certain events change the story?
  -No, because the plot needs to proceed a certain way. However, if we do this contest again, I'm thinking of making an open-choice sequel to this...
  
  Anything Else?
  -If I left a sentence off in the middle, hit me and tell me to fix it. I skipped around as ideas randomly came to me. XP
  -I've always been bad at titles, but this one actually has some sort of meaning. “Tri” means “three”. Three factions, three friends (James, Sabrina, and Andrew), three main ways to fight (offense, defense, and support), etc. So yeah. Also it sounds like “Try”, which I think is an awesome philosophy for everything. At least try it before you decide you can't. James asks Andrew for help, Andrew joins him, even Atticus ends up working with the thieves. Anyone can try something once.

Epic. Like, truly. ^^ I can totally see this playing out in my head, and was actually a little disappointed there wasn't more to read. But by default, and general awesomeness, you win first place! Hopefully there will be a second contest like this, and hopefully others will join in!

Choose a building to destroy, por favor! If you wish to take this into account (although it can be totally unrelated if you wish)-- Kay's prize for her contest entry was setting the world of mutants galore aflame. Just sayin'.

Of course, anyone is welcome to join in-- you don't have to be excusively freedom fighter to join their destruction, and you don't have to have a particularly good reason to be at Kay's destruction! (Once again, I realize I am talking to the general audience and not you).
